Liar's Dice descends from Dudo, a bluffing game played in Peru and Chile for centuries and reputedly carried to Europe by Spanish sailors, where it later spread as Perudo. It earned modern fame in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, where Davy Jones's crew wager years of servitude over cups of hidden dice.
What lifts it above pure gambling is the arithmetic underneath the theatre. With every die showing a given face about one time in six, you can estimate how many of any value are probably on the table — then decide whether the previous bid stretches that estimate or hides safely inside it.
