Farkle — Play Free Online

🎲How to Play Farkle

Farkle is a classic free online push-your-luck dice game where every roll is a gamble: bank your points safely, or roll again and risk losing everything you earned this turn. Play it in your browser against the computer with no download and no sign-up.

The tension between greed and caution makes Farkle endlessly fun and genuinely strategic. Easy, Medium and Hard settings change how aggressively the computer chases points and the score you are all racing to, so the risk calculations stay sharp.

Farkle belongs to a rowdy folk family of dice games known variously as 10,000, Zilch, Hot Dice and Greed, passed around tables for generations before boxed commercial versions appeared. Nobody can prove its origin — a popular legend crediting a 14th-century sailor is almost certainly invented — but the design is folk-game perfection: one shared risk decision, repeated over and over, with the pain of a wipeout always one roll away.

The maths behind the nerve is worth knowing. Rolling a single die scores only on a 1 or a 5, so pressing your luck with one die fails two times in three. With six fresh dice, by contrast, a farkle happens barely one turn in fifty. That steep curve — from near-safe to coin-flip-and-worse — is the entire game: the skill is recognising exactly where on the curve your greed stops paying.

Objective

Be the first player to reach the target score (commonly 10,000) by setting aside scoring dice and banking points, without "farkling" — rolling no scoring dice and losing your unbanked points.

Controls

Click Roll to throw the dice, then click the scoring dice you want to set aside. Click Bank to keep your accumulated points and end your turn, or Roll again with the remaining dice to try for more. If you set aside all six dice, you may roll all six again — a "hot dice".

Scoring

Single 1s score 100 each and single 5s score 50 each; three of a kind scores 100 times the number (three 1s score 1,000), and special combinations like a straight or three pairs score bonus points. Roll with no scoring dice at all and you farkle, losing every point gathered that turn.

Tips & Strategy

Bank early when you are ahead or holding a solid pile of points, and only press your luck with several dice still left to roll. The fewer dice remaining, the higher the chance of a farkle, so know when to stop — chasing hot dice with two dice left is where many turns are lost.
